Due to the (for me) new type of battery design of the Niro, where KIA mixes the use of the two batteries (the litium and the boot battery) I am a bit concerned about the condition of the latter, when it is cold up here in Sweden - sometimes down to -30C!

As smax100 writes, you can´t start the car with the 12V battery drained or even empty. The Niro needs to do some initial tests driven by the 12V battery before it orders the high voltage battery to start the car.

So....... when its really cold I always have my CTEK XS 0.8- charger connected to the 12V-battery - just in case - even though I most of the time have my Niro in a garage (a cold garage).

As you might know the CTEK-chargers are considered to be the worlds best and they can be connected to the battery all the time if you want.
I also have a CTEK connected to the battery of my Snowmobile the whole off-season and is starts at once when I decide to go for a ride even if I haven´t touched it for 8-9 months!

You know that the CTEKs are a Swedish construction, don´t you? :D

    Sure!
When I drive in "my" town (Östersund) the consumption is at once lower - typically around 4,3 to 4,6!

Mal ne Frage an @fullkoll :

wie schaffst du es, bei deinen Außentemperaturen konstant unter 5l/100km zu bleiben?

Well........ first of all you have to buy a car with good fuel economy - which I did in mid October 2016 :D

I have now driven it around 5000 km and the consumption I get nowadays is better than when it was delivered and that´s normal, of course.
On my way home from my Ferien Hause today I filled her (him?) up and got 4,58 and the total is 4,91 right now.

Why so reasonable? Well, I think there are several reasons for that:

    * The temperatures now are quite different from years ago, when we here in the north of Sweden regularly had -20 to -30 very often! Global warming effect?
We have had some very cold days so far this winter too, but mostly around minus 5 to 15C or higher.

    * The area where I live is not densely populated - so the traffic is not heavy. Not a lot of overtaking and since I often am almost alone on the road, I don´t have to follow the traffic.

    * The speed limits of the roads here are 80 to 100 km/h

    * The roads here are not salted, so we drive on ice and snow in the winter and even if we are used to that, it is not an invitation to speed racing.

    * I like cruising without stress and since I am retired I rarely have a deadline to meet.

    * I try to drive as economical as possible and I now and then look at the "EV" and I can somtimes drive by EV by raising the gas pedal just a little bit. Not sure that this lowers the consumption though, but it is interesting :D

Since my wife and I always spend some weeks in Germany every summer, I very much look forward to the consumption on the A1 and A7 ...........

I will not even try to write this post in German.......

I have been following a discussion on a UK forum about an available update of the ECU (Engine control unit) of the Niro.

Here is what one member wrote yesterday:

Thought you would like to know I have taken my Niro 3 in last week for the update.
I went in because I detected a slight hesitation on the overrun when the petrol engine was running. Nothing major, you understand, but annoying. The car has done 1300 miles.
Went into Loughborough Kia, I explained the problem and they looked the car up on the data base and sure enough it needed an update. “Have a cup of coffee and we will do it now”, they said.
By the time I had a chance to drink the coffee, and chat to the friendly staff, the car was ready.
The update has got rid of the hesitation, and interestingly it has improved the MPG on the readout by about 1 MPG

Has anyone noticed those problems - "a slight hesitation on the overrun when the petrol engine was running"? and has anyone talked about this with the seller?
I think that I have noticed it when the gear changed after the petrol engine started...... hesitation is the word..... 8|

My seller is to far away for me to just drop in and discuss this. I need more info!

I have -26,1°C outside right now and +20,6°C inside - by the window ......... not too bad is it? cool.png

If you look at my profile and Benutzerkarte you can see exactly where I am situated! Further north it´s even colder.......
